Are you a Greenie?

Are you Green? Then DRIVE the TALK. I live in an area (Asheville/Buncombe County) with a high concentration of Greenies, as I like to call them. I have noticed that most of these Greenies do not drive the talk. They are easy to spot on the road, wearing proudly their bumper stickers and driving their Hybrids, yet they speed like there is no tomorrow. They hurry up and wait. Erratic driving and speeding waste fuel and adds unnecessary carbon to our atmosphere.

My green philosophy is to drive like a tourist, slow down and enjoy the views. If 10% of the speeders slowed down we might save this planet from ourselves.

VISION QUEST[a hopi statement]

Loloma. Good morning.On behalf of the Hopi people, it is my responsibility to be here today to express the Hopi Tribal government and Hopisemon, or Hopi people's opposition to Uranimum exploration and mining around the Grand Canyon. We understand that thousands of new claims have been filed around the Grand Canyon on US Forest Service and BLM lands. These lands are part of our ancestral lands.

Therefore it is my pleasure to be here to express support for the Grand Canyon Watersheds Protection Act. H>R>5583 would protect 1 million acres around the Canyon from Uranimum mining and exploration by withdrawing "the Tusayan Ranger District and the land administered by the BLM in the vicinity of Rock House Valley and Kanab Creek from entry, patent and location under the mining laws and for other purposes.

The Canyon is a Traditional Cultural Property of the Hopi people. We emerged into this world at the Canyon, known to us as Ongtuvga, or Salt Canyon it is the birthplace of our people.

With our emergenge we entered into a Sacred Covenant with Maasaw[the Earth Guardian] in which it is our responsibility to be preservers and protectors, of Stewards of the Earth. In accordance with that covenant our ancestors migrated to and setteled in these lands, and then migrated from them to Hopi [Tuuwanasavi], the Spiritual Center of the Earth.

AS YOU CAN SEE HERE THE QUEST WAS A WONDERFUL EXPIERENCE FROM ALL INVOLVED AND THE FOCUS WAS ON SIMILAR PHILOSOPHIES FROM AROUND THE PLANET///I DID NOT INCLUDE ALL OF HIS STATEMENTS BUT THIS IS TO GIVE YOU A ROUGH IDEA OF THE CONTEXT OF THE VISION QUEST AND I WILL TRY TO INCORPORATE THE STATEMENTS OF THE OTHERS AS WE GO ALONG.

ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING THINGS WAS THE SHARED [GUESS YOU COULD CALL THE HALUCINATIONS] OF WHAT EACH WAS SPEAKING OFF//for instance while the Mayan was talking of the repression of his people and thier need for equality we could actually see a movie of his thoughts taking place over the fire///this was the same for each speaker and one could only speak while in possesion of the feather, sort of like the talking stick I had heard of in the past///If one wished to comment he or she held a finger in front of thier mouth and if allowed by the speaker they would point the feather at you...THIS SITUATION CONTINUED THROUGHOUT THE EXERCISE EXCEPT DURING THE WALKS WWHEN THE GUIDE DID MOST OF THE SPEAKING//OF COURSE VERY DIFFERENT, PLANTS AND ANIMALS TALKING IS SLIGHTLY BEYOND MY NORMAL PROCESS//
