Diskeeper Disk Maintenance: Better Than Defrag

Diskeeper sped up our old machine noticeably overnight! This was not a scientific double blind study. However, Aggie installed Diskeeper without Cougina's knowledge one afternoon. The next morning, Cougina wanted to know what happened to make his computer so much faster.

Diskeeper uses new concepts, different than conventional defrag software. Conventional defrag programs put the pieces of files together (Humpty Dumpty) after they are written. You probably run a defrag once a week, once a month, or when your PC gets sluggish. Diskeeper's algorithm ensures that Humpty hits the ground in one piece. A few Humpty's do fragment, but Diskeeper puts them back together automatically.

The other big concept of Diskeeper is that it imposes virtually no system overhead. You leave it running all the time, and it uses cpu cycles that would otherwise be wasted, but doesn't take away from your running tasks.

The result is not only an operation speedup, but a fraction of normal disk accesses, because files are accessed in one go. This extends the lifetime of your hard drive by 1-3 years, according to the manufacturer.

We found out about Diskeeper when we bought a new PC from Oleg Lerner at micro_tech1. Check him out if you are in the market for a PC:

BLESSED BE,
AGGIE & COUGINA
