Gearing up: Choosing a 3 Man Tent

This is the roomiest tent I've ever been in (being accustomed to the Clip Flashlight 2), and weighs a reasonable 5 lb 4 oz (Sierra Designs spec - we have not weighed.) You can see it here set up in our living room.

We decided to go with a three man tent, for the extra room when we may be stuck inside on rainy days. Looking at lightest weights, moderate prices, and tents with a mesh roof (for seeing the night sky), we checked out three makers: Big Agnes, Nemo, and Sierra Designs.

Big Agnes had two superlight models (not too much over 3 lb), and we certainly were attracted to the name. They were pricier -- Google showed prices of $350 and $390. We went with the Sierra Designs Lightning HT 3. Picked it up for $200 at Mountain Gear in Spokane Valley (great service). We got the floor space and head room we wanted. Setup is reasonably quick.

Of course, the useful information will come when we find out how it holds up under outdoor conditions. We'll let you know. We can't wait.
